Arroyo Seco Weekend, now in its second year is in full swing with attracting the cream of real hard working bands and musicians from real rock n’ roll, folk, blues & soul and just the kind of bands you want to hear at a proper festival: Kings of Leon, Robert Plant, Neil Young & The 90’s sensation The Bangles to name a few…
The festival takes place at the Rose Bowl, but not in the stadium, in the park that is within the Rose Bowl grounds… I think it might be a golf course… ?? However its very beautiful and unlike last year, they had their crowd management and layout down to a tee! The festival drew thirty thousand music loving people per day, and had their queues, loos and vibes all perfected.
Saturday – Jeff Goldblum, Kamsi Washington, The Milk Carton Kids, Chrissie Hynde & The Pretenders, Margo Price, Jack White and The Specials
Shooting for WENN (World Entertainment News Network) & Cover Images I fist got to see exciting up and comer who’s making a great name for himself as a headline act was Shakey Graves.
I then covered Jeff Goldblum who headlines at Willow Stage, where some really great artist performed again this year. Jeff always entertains the crowd and puts on such a great show with his mastery of the piano… and accompaniment from the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.
Kamasi Washington absolutely blow the crowds away when his band played The Oaks Stage. His soulful jazz combined with his saxophone playing was gospel and magic to watch.
The Milk Carton Kids are a band I have been waiting to see live for a couple of years. Their sweet harmonies and deep soulful folk style is unique. Their two guys with just their acoustic guitars that can fill ten thousand folks with their magical tones and sweet melodies. If you enjoy folk music you have to check them out.
Then came probably my favorite act that I photographed at the festival, Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders. I had to start working pretty quickly in the pit as we only got to shoot the first three songs for most artists. I had to really buck up and pick my jaw up from the floor, she cam on and just brought magic, harmony, love and play the best of The Pretenders hits. She was the talk of the festival back at the media tent… probably should have headlined they were that good!
After such an amazing performance from The Pretenders, I ventured over to The Sycamore stage to shoot indy band Belle and Sebastian. Sebastian’s voice sounded great and was on top form, they drew a big crowd and wowed the fans hugely with some of their great hits.
Over at The Willow stage country folk artist Margo Price was headlining deep into the afternoon. Margo is another artist to look out for, she is Nashville grit through and through, she is gorgeous and has a singer songwriting style like no other… She drew a massive crowd and defiantly delivered one of the most enjoyable sets at the festival. For me anyway…
Running over to the Oaks stage to shoot Jack White.
The Specials headlining The Sycamore stage, a British band you heard in the 90’s loads. They were fantastic and drew a huge crowd, the fans belted out The Specials classics and the band were really on top form!
Then came the headline of the show Neil Young. I didn’t get to photograph Neil Young on this occasion as again there were certain restrictions, but I did sit side stage and watch as the sun set over Los Angeles. A memorable end to an amazing day…
I hope you enjoy the pictures. Look out for the next tour post from the Sunday at Arroyo Seco Weekend 2018.
